India Struck by Strauss

Borrowing the title of this post from one of the friend’s Facebook status, England indeed won the game in everyone’s heart. What a game of cricket it was today! Overall this was just about the game and who’ll be the deserving side. In the end both emerged deserving and result too respected them. However, it is worth mentioning that England was more deserving and I’d have preferred them to win. Throughout the match England displayed great zeal and motivation. Chasing 338 isn’t easy and I want to appreciate them for the composure and class they have displayed today. Initially Strauss and Bell showed no sign of pressure until only when Bell started cramping.

On the other side, Indian batsmen again lived up to expectation and showed unity. Dhoni, Yuvraj, Kohli, Harbhajan, Yusuf and rest of the batsmen showed that when wickets are falling, they also have to get out to keep unity in the team. Sachin is habituated to play against this unity and it’s ok if he’s left with fewer players on his side.

Men in blue showed once again that they still are carrying the legacy of 90s when team India was known to shuffle under pressure. The awe of Strauss and Bell’s batting left their mouth wide open and heads down. It was really hurting to see the lossing attitude everyone was wearing when England was leading the front. (more…)

SACH’INnings of master class

We grow up calling him “tendlya” and we still do. 20 years it has been and the master is getting better and better. We still die to watch him hit that straight drive and a glance that takes awe out of anyone in the world. When he’s batting we feel secured and comfortable. His presence make us feel any target is in reach. Yet, he’s not called master only because of his skills, but the sheer humbleness and humility that he shares with everyone.

Yesterday, he became first man on the earth to score 14,000 runs in test cricket, today he’s on the brink of making double ton and I really want them to count 2 centuries instead of 1, there by making him the only player in the world to score 50 centuries. To be frank, efforts required to score next 100 runs is huge compared to initial 100 runs. His dismissal at 98 in last test was unfortunate. However, he didn’t allow nervousness to creep in this time and completed his 49th hundred with a 6. It was Tendulkar’s 11th Test ton against Australia and his 20th score 150-plus score – a world record. (more…)

India outplays Pakistan in a thrilling game

Wait! this wasn’t a final match of the series. But they way it was staged, I was actually waiting for Ravi Shastri to announce Man of the Series. Then I realized it was just another game of the series. Match between India and Pakistan are always more than a game of cricket. It’s game of pride, emotion and extreme importance. Football World Cup may have been successful in snatching away everyone’s attention, but it seems a series of mediocre  matches opened an opportunity and India Vs Pakistan match scored big time.

While the awe inspiring 268-run chase was set up by man of the match Gautam Gambhir (83) and MS Dhoni (56), it was a calm play from Suresh Raina (34 off 27 balls) and Harbhajan (15 off 10 balls) sealed the victory for India. (more…)
