Good disciplined bowling and then sensible batting performance helped Hyderabad’s keep their hopes of making it to the semis alive. The bowlers who have been leaking runs in the last overs in the previous matches ensured that it didn’t happen this time around. They restricted the Super kings to a modest total of 138 which the batsmen achieved by losing 4 wickets. The six wickets win helped Hyderabad earn two crucial points and they are now tied with the Chennai and Kolkata.
Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first in the scorching heat of Nagpur which was a home game for the estranged Hyderabad. The Super kings started of well with M Vijay and Hayden providing a brisk start. They lost Hayden when the score reached 41 in the 5th over. He edged it to Gilchrist of Harmeet Singh. This bought the in form Raina to the middle. He hit three fours in the next over. In the eighth over M Vijay ran for a suicidal second run which started the downfall of the Chennai’s batting line up. The runs dried up and they kept losing wickets at regular interval.
All batsmen coming after Raina scored in single digits. At the same time the Hyderabad maintained the pressure by some good bowling from R Harris, A Symonds and H Singh. Harris picked up crucial wicket of Raina in the 18th over, just at right time. He finished with 3 wickets in four overs conceding only 18 runs. Harmeet Singh provided a good support to Harris picking the most important wicket of Hayden early in the inning. And Ojah continues to hold purple cap with his 20-1.
With a target of 138 the Hyderabad started cautiously. They lost Gilchrist and Mishra in the same over and the required run rate also kept climbing up. But they were in control of things. The pair of T Suman and A Symonds again played a crucial role in achieving the target. Suman played a sensible knock scoring 55 runs in 44 balls. He fell in the 17th over with 32 runs required to win of 24 balls. Symonds kept his cool and reached the target with help of D Smith. Hyderabad thus registered a six wickets win over Chennai. The man of the match was given to R Harris. Next they play the Bangalore on 12th another must win game.
For the chargers who heavily relay on their overseas players it was good to see the local players chipping in and contributing in the win. T Suman and Harmeet Singh played a crucial role in yesterdays win. Each match from here is a must win match a virtual final as Gilchrist puts it. Also looking at the points table it looks like run rate is going to play very important role in deciding the place in semi finals. So it is not just the win but also the net run rate that needs to be kept in mind.
