Delhi needed a win badly and they fetched one and that too against mighty opponents Bangalore. Bangalore was on winning run and started as favorites. But in this format of game hardly any team can be a dominant for a long. A brilliant performance from one or two players can swing a game in your favor and Delhi found out one in Kedar Jadhav. His inning of 50 from 29 balls set a game for them. The good batting performance from Kedar, Warner and Ab de Villiers was backed by high-quality fielding which ensured a win for Delhi.
Delhi started a game without Gambhir and Dilshan. Australian Andrew Macdonald was preferred ahead of Maharoof, Dilshan and Henriques which raised certain eyebrows but the inclusion of Kedar Jadhav was spot on. As Bangalore opted to field first after winning a toss, everyone was set to watch a contest between Dale Steyn and Sehwag but it was Warner who stole the show. He hit Steyn for 16 runs in 2nd over of inning and rushed Delhi to 44 in just 3.1 overs. But Delhi lost both dashing openers in quick succession and was in trouble with unfledged middle order.
Stand-in skipper Karthik (17) hung in with Ab de Villiers (45) and consolidated inning somewhat. Fall of Karthik’s wicket in 11th over brought in debutant Kedar Jadhav to center. The youngster looked in good nick from the word go and was not deterred by Bangalore’s bowling attack which appeared to be below par. Kedar’s 50 of 29 balls includes 5 fours and 2 sixes and helped Delhi to put up 183 on board.
For one more time in IPL-2010, orange cap holder Kallis (27) provided a good start to Bangalore’s chase. He along with Pandey (39) put on 71 runs opening stand in 9 overs and Bangalore looked good for fifth straight win. But Mishra turned tables for Daredevils. He got Kallis with the classical wrong turn .In next over Macdonald bowled Pandey who was in dangerous mood. On very next delivery Dravid got run out and Delhi struck back at right time.
In next over Mishra caught another big fish Uthappa who was instrumental in Bangalore’s win over Chennai other night. Thereafter Bangalore lost the plot and wickets fell regularly. They lost a wicket in almost every over. They lost Morgan in 15th over, Boucher in 16th, Vinay Kumar in 17th, Pravin Kumar in 18th and Steyn in 20th over. Delhi were agile in field and got three run outs and Ab De Villiers plucked one out of nowhere to dismiss Praveen Kumar. It was a sensational catch. AB was at long off – few meters inside rope, when P Kumar hit one hard he run back, leapt up in the air and plunked it with one hand and landed a foot inside ropes, certainly – a catch of tournament.
In the end Delhi halted Bangalore’s winning run and managed to add 2 crucial points to overall points tally. This win will give a lot of confidence to them. And I believe once Gambhir features in playing eleven they will be one of the strong contenders for semifinal birth. So watch out for Delhi.
