Need I say catches win matches? Jayasuriya and Tendulkar provided a brisk start to Mumbai Indians inning after put in to bat by Delhi. It was 5th over, Ladda produced a thick edge of Tendulkar and Mishra running backwards failed to hold it. At that stage MI score was 58-1 in 5.4 overs. Tendulkar was on roll today, and that dropped chance cost Delhi heavily. DD lost Gambhir early in the inning when he pulled a hamstring injury and he was off the field in 2nd over only. In the absence of Gambhir, Karthik was stand-in skipper.
Tendulkar played some beautiful strokes to raise his fifty of just 23 deliveries. After he got out on 63, the new look middle order of Tare, Tiwary and Raydu chipped in with good contribution. Tiwary was extraordinary and got to his 2nd fifty. His 61 includes three huge sixes. The middle order insured that run rate do not fall below 10. Their contribution helped MI post a huge total. Delhi bowlers looked out of place, even dependable Nannes was erractic. Surprisingly Karthik used only 5 bowlers; he didn’t use Sehwag or Dilshan.
Chasing a huge total of 218 runs was a humongous task, next to impossible when you lose a prolific opener like Gambhir and play with only 10 players. But with dangerous Sehwag, Dilshan and Ab de Villiers in their top order Delhi fancied their chances and started with quick fire 38 in just 3.4 overs. Thereafter it was downfall; started with a beautiful bowled of Dilshan by slower one from Malinga.
Bravo struck twice in the 7th over to get rid of Sehwag and Ab de Villiers. They left too much for Karthik and Maharoof and Delhi was 84-5 at the end of 10th over. Then it was just a matter of 39 balls and Delhi was bundled out for just 120 runs; a huge victory by 98 runs for MI. A margin of runs plays an important role in deciding a net run rate and Delhi’s run rate suddenly dropped from +0.70 to -1.19 and MI’s net run rate jumped from +0.20 to +2.55 and they now sit at the top of the table.
Sachin was adjudged Man of the match for his 63. Big hitting Tiwary won an award for DLF maximum sixes and substitute fielder Y Nagar won a Karboon Kamal catch of the match award for his athletic effort.
All in all it was thoroughly clinical and professional performance by Mumbai Indians. They were better side in all departments. The loss in third game should not affect Delhi much. They are a good side and would like to pick the momentum at right time. An early series of wins may have given a room for complacency.

Sachin is absolutely enjoying his time of life. We can see how much cricket is left in him. If his body supports him, he can certainly play for 10 mroe years and he also would love to do that. What you think?

I would say – it was not DD’s day… they couldn’t stop runs, they couldn’t score runs, they lost their captain, even there 12th man (Delhi crowd) couldn’t cheer them up…….
U said, in your last article that.. u would like to see MI to fire, but not against your team…. I guess MI read it before the match and showed… Delhi ho ya Rajasthan… MIs know only winning…..

When a chasing a big total it is very imp that at least one player, who is capable of accelerating the inning at any time, should stay at the crease and rest should go after the bowling. Thats just what RCB did against KXIP with Kallis staying at the crease and providing the acceleration at the end. For delhi same was expected from either Shewag or Dilshan. But both failed. And as Aniket mentioned, with the absence of Ghambir the task became even more difficult. And under pressure to maintain the run rate daredevils kept on loosing wickets. Although it is too early in the tournament but all teams need to keep an eye on the net run rate.

Gambhir leaving the field was the major blow to Delhi. Karthik did not apply his mind. Gauti should had definitely considered Viru and Dilshan as bowling options when MI batsmen were on song. Its time to give Warner chance. We all know how much he is capable of. Dishan is not in his supreme form so Warner is good choice here.

Talking about Dilshan, I would say he panics too easily. If you have seen him leading the Srilankan team you would get what I am saying. When tension peaks, he starts getting in negative aura. That precisely what hurts at such stage. I think having gr8 players like gambhir, viru, dilshan and even karthik is capable of playing big shots, they simply gave up the game.
