Chargers registered their third consecutive victory in IPL by defeating Delhi by 10 runs. Two of these three victories came on their surrogate home ground Cuttack. The Deccans read the track well and aimed for a score of 170 plus which they thought was competitive and could be defended by the bowling attack they have and were successful in doing so.
Winning the toss Gilchrist again choose to bat first. With the Cuttack track playing slow the Daredevils started straight away with a spin by getting A Mishra to bowl the first over. M Mishra coming in place of injured Laxman could not do much as he got out in the first over to googly. Deccan lost a wicket in the first over for the first time. Instead of Gilchrist providing a flying started this time it was Gibbs who started the onslaught hitting D Nannes to one six and two fours in the 2nd over. Gilchrist then got into the act churning ten runs each in the next two overs. He got out in the 5th over with the score board reading 44/2 in 5 overs.
Gibbs and Symonds now acquainted with the track started picking singles quite easily and kept the score board ticking. Just when it looked like Gibbs was on for a big score he got out edging it to backward point. R. Sharma joined Symonds and continued to take singles and doubles hitting odd fours and sixes. Again just when it looked like the pair will cut loose Symonds fell missing a pull shot and giving AB de Villiers a simple catch. Rohit Sharma played a good inning this time scoring 45 in 30 balls. He was supported well by T Suman. In 20 overs the Chargers posted a competitive score of 171/6.
The target was not very stiff for Delhi, especially if Sehwag and Warner got going. Warner looked in a good touch and gave a good start to Delhi even though they lost Sehwag cheaply. Warner made a quick fire 53 from 33 balls punishing the chargers with four 4’s and four 6’s. He got run out trying to sneak a single. Though AB de Villiers was playing well he missed a simple full toss delivery by the Rahul Sharma. Delhi were now 100/3 in 13 overs still needing 72 runs in the 7 overs. Even though they kept loosing wickets their captain D Karthik kept them in the hunt. With two overs to go they required 20 runs to win and looked set with D Karthik still there. Gilly then handed over the ball to Symonds who got Karthik and Mishra on back to back deliveries. In the last over Delhi required 14 runs. But they were up against the purple cap owner C. Vass On the very first delivery he got Y Nagar bowled and then hit the stumps to get S Laddha run out. Delhi finally fall short by 10 runs. And this was the third straight loss for Delhi.
Even though Deccans have been winning the matches they need to a look into their performance. They keep loosing wickets at important juncture. All the batsmen are chipping in with a good start but failing to convert it to a good score. Also last time purple cap owner RP Singh is being hit for runs and also not getting wickets. Chargers need to get these things right before they come against in-form teams like Mumbai and Bangalore.

yes Karthik tried his best but it was not enough… Delhi is missing Gauti badly… Their indian contingent is looking weak and they are not able to figure out the right balance..
whereas Chargers are on song and now they are one of the strong contenders for last 4 finish….
