Back in April 2008 when Indian Premier League was introduced to Indian fans, they were confused, because they always believed in brand India and as far as cricket is concerned rarely were we exposed to multi-loyalty format and cheering for the national team had come naturally to us. Then the big question was; which is my team? For whom should I vouch for?
Many theories were doing rounds. Most of us were confused. Someone postulated, I was born in Hyderabad but brought up in Mumbai. I adore Sachin but I see a glimpse of Sachin in Sehwag. So whom Shall I support Deccan Chargers or Mumbai Indians (MI) or Delhi Daredevils? Okay let me go with Sachin for MI but Kingfisher is my brand and I will have to be loyal with Mallya plus Indian Wall plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore, more confusion. All right, enough! I will go with Dhoni, the Captain of T20 Champion side and I will support Chennai Super Kings but then what about the magician? Will he turn the tables for Rajasthan Royals? It was turning out to be a Million Dollar Question. Then I decided to keep cricket aside and back King Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders lead by Dada but then again I was in love with Preity’s dimple and add to that the presence of 6 sixer boy in Kings XI Punjab side. Oh God! Even more confusion!
The first season was over by the time anyone could zero in on their team. Then I thought there is enough time to come to a decision and to settle on my brand for IPL season 2. But Shilpa had other plans, from nowhere she got into the IPL gala and added a fuel to the confusion of first season. One more addition to the list shall I support RR? They were brilliant in the first season and more important than that Shilpa’s figure, Aha! I was about to pick my team but unfortunately IPL was shifted to South Africa then it was brand India again. The domestic tournament was to be played on foreign soil. I was a proud Indian and it was a blessing in disguise. I decided to enjoy the drama without cheering for any particular team.
This year IPL is back in India for the third edition amidst numerous controversies. The success of IPL in the long run will depend on our support. Fan base plays an important role in any league e.g. NBA, EPL, NFL etc. All teams in these leagues have huge fan base and people are crazy about their teams. They pick their team and stay loyal to it. So can we develop a similar version of such loyalty for our IPL teams? Yes we can. They criticized us for being an immature to support any particular team, are we? Certainly not, so let’s start it. How?
We care for your passion towards IPL and we are taking it to the next level. As promised, we have come up with a unique action on cricketsimple (CS). IPL-2010 is our first mission. When IPL teams take their guard in the middle to fight for 2010-Championship, we will fight it out here on cricketsimple. We will allocate a team to a player on CS. And throughout the IPL season he will put forward his views on his team and convince the world why his team is the best team in the IPL and how loyal he is to his team?
Every time a player expresses his opinion, he will be awarded points. As IPL is non-stop circus, everyday we will have an opinion of one or the other players. We have decided to judge a player on three criterions. The point table of CS player will be as follows.

A player will have to support his team throughout the IPL. If his team wins a game and he joins them by putting his views on CS he will earn a point for all three factors. If his team loses a game and still he continues his support by analyzing what went wrong he will also earn a point for all three factors. But if his team wins a game and he does not join them and enjoys the success only in limited circle he will be charged with a negative point for all three factors. If his team loses a game and he does not want to give reasons for the loss, we would not like to rub salt into his wounds so no points will be deducted from his tally. A player will earn bonus points for his exuberance like watching a match in stadium, getting a players photograph or autograph etc.
So select your team. And be loyal to your team. Your loyalty can be city based, state based, player based or franchise based, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that we will enjoy the game even more than we used to. If you want to be a part of this CS team and want to be a player on CS, leave your comment and we will get in touch with you. And let me assure you that you will get a continuous support from CS team. So join us and give it a try to make IPL3 bigger and better!!
