Who can make it to IPL semi-finals?

ipl_winner_trophyAfter today’s matches it is almost clear who all can make it to the semis of the IPL 2010 season. We already know Mumbai is in the semis with total of 20 points scored at NRR (Net run Rate) of +1.251, 10 wins and just 3 losses. It was unclear that who will make the final cut before round 1 of this season gets over. Rajsthan had a chance to make into the semis but somehow they cannot bring the alchemist effect for making gold out of lead. Bangalore is the second most promising team this season. With total of 14 points scored at NRR of +0.219 and with 7 wins ans 7 losses they have step into the doors of semi-finals.

Two teams out of Delhi, Chennai and Deccans will make into the semis. However, if Chennai scores one more victory their standing would be 14 points with 7 wins and 7 losses. To take a note here, Chennai’s NRR is better than that of Bangalore’s. It would be crucial to see who takes the fatality and lands up in semis.

Delhi on the other hand stands at a total points of 14 with NRR of +0.066, and 7 wins and 6 losses. They still have a game to be played that can decide the future stay of Delhi in the game. Deccans are the first team to have negative NRR and still have a chance to get into semis. With 7 wins and 6 losses they have score total points of 14 at NRR of -0.363.

As it is very clear that the up coming games between Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Punjab would decide those 3 teams top four slots. As Punjab is already out of semi-finals, so is the case of Rajasthan.  it would be a bonus point opportunity for teams who are to play against them. Chennai is the one who would be playing against Punjab and with win can improve their run rate and consolidate their chances. Kolkata still have a remote chance and it depends on the result of all remaining matches. If Punjab beats Chennai and Delhi beats Hyderabad and Kolkata wins against Mumbai with huge margin, it’s an improbable situation but then they can also make a cut theoretically. So watch out for Match no. 54, 55 and 56 to know the semi final contenders.
