5 Wicket–Maiden and Still on Losing Side

AmearCricket is a funny game, more so when Pakistan is playing a match. Yesterday’s match between Australia and Pakistan was no different. Pakistan got five Australian wickets in one over. In most of the scenarios that would have been a turning point of a match but last night it was inconsequential. Pakistan had lost the plot way before than that.

Australia were 191-5 when Mohammad Aamer came in to bowl 20th over. On first ball he got rid of Haddin who was caught at short third man by Sami. On next ball Aamer yorked Mithcell  Johnson, On third ball Hussey tried to get back on strike by running for a bye but got run out. On the next ball they again attempted a run on bye and again got run out, this time it was Smith. So that was four from four balls. After two suicidal run out they refused a run on fifth ball. On sixth ball Tait give himself a room to hit a shot. He missed a shot but Aamer did not miss stumps.

So from 191-5 at the end of 19th over mighty Australia was bowled out for 191 at the end of 20th over but they were still on top of the game. It was a record 20th over – 5 wickets for no run. Certainly a best over in cricket if we consider only a ball by ball analysis W W W W 0 W but not the best considering match situation.  Earlier Sami got smacked for 28 runs in 16th over. David Hussey hit four towering sixes in that over.

Watson’s 81 of 49 balls and David Hussey’s 53 of 29 balls ensured Australia a good start to their T20 campaign. But defending champions Pakistan faltered in their run chase and could not put up a fight and lost the match by 34 runs.
