Yes you read it correctly, if we go by seeds for T20 World Cup, unseeded Australia have defeated seeded Bangladesh and hence the upset. Teams in T20 WC are seeded based on their performance in last year’s T20 WC. Australia is unseeded and Bangladesh is seeded 8. Last night they tried to justify the seed system but their effort was not enough against the mighty Australians.
At one stage Bangladesh had Australia on floor when Aussies were 65-6 in 12.5 overs. Then the Mr. Cricketer Mike Hussey came to their rescue he along with Steven Smith added another 74 runs to Australia’s total. Hussey batted at no. 7, and scored 47 in 29 balls and they managed to post 142 on board. Initially Hussey was dealing in 1s and 2s and was nudging the ball around but in last 3-4 overs he accelerated the scoring rate.
Bangladesh could not handle Australia’s pace attack and gave up too early. They were 15-4 at the end of 4 overs. Dirk Nannes was pick of the bowlers and finished with 4-18 in his 4 overs. Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim tried to get Bangaladesh back into game but Australia is too good a side to give a second chance.
In another mismatch between South Africa and Afghanistan, Afghan team restricted RSA to 139 runs. But African attack was beyond their control. Morne Morkel, Charl Langeveldt and Dale Steyn demolished Afghanistan in first 8 overs. They were 8 down for 32 runs. Then there was partnership of 33 and 15 runs for 9th and 10th wicket. South Africa after losing to India entered super-8 stage by winning by 59 runs.
Now the real action begins. No space for minnows. 8 Good teams will fight between each other to get their hands on trophy.
