Rain Mars Cricketing Action

Zim-NZSo, England qualifies for Super-8 without winning a game in round-1. They were on back foot and rain interruptions came to their rescue. A point was shared between Ireland and England. But England went through based on a better run rate.

In a superb bowling display Ireland restricted England to 120-8 in 20 overs. The same side that scored 191 against West Indies 24 hours back was on the verger of getting eliminated. When the match was called off, Ireland were 14-1 in 3.3 overs. Nine more balls and that could have sealed England’s fortune in T20 world cup had Ireland managed 13 runs more without losing any more wickets in those 9 balls. Morgan (45) and Luke Wright (20) helped England to cross a 100 run mark.

Earlier in the day, New Zealand won a match against Zimbabwe by 7 runs by D/L method. NZ restricted Zimbabwe who looked promising in the warm-up games to paltry 84. Nathan Mcullum was the hero of Match; he got three wickets in one over and Styris got 2 in 13th over.

Zimbabwean collapse started when Maskadza got run out. They were cruising well with 58-1 in 6.3 overs. But a quick throw from deep square leg by Oram got rid of Masakadza and they lost next 9 wickets for 26 runs. NZ got to 36-1 in 8.1 overs when rain stopped the play; eventually they got qualified by D/L method and so does Lanka.

Now if there are no setbacks in tonight’s game between Australia Vs Bangladesh and Afghanistan Vs South Africa, then we will have 8 quality teams in super-8. And then the real action will start. Teams will have to start with a clean slate. They can not carry over points from group stage.
