Oops !!! They Said It

gambhir_comment_ipl Last week controversy erupted when Delhi Captain Gambhir was reprimanded for being honest and expressing his opinion publicly. Gambhir at post match presentation after Delhi’s win over former champions said, “The Rajasthan, with the exception of Yusuf Pathan, were ordinary”. After being reported by IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi he was fined 50% match fees for breaching IPL code of conduct. Entire cricketing fraternity was stunned over this kind of charge for just speaking up one’s mind openly.

Later on Gambhir in his article in Hindustan Times clarified that he stands by his opinion. It’s not a question of whether he is right or wrong or you agree or not; what we need to understand is that it is his personal opinion and as a cricketer who has represented India at the highest level we must respect it.

Apart from what is being reported and charged in last 25 days, I have noticed many other comments made by players and commentators which may not have grabbed much attention but are certainly worth mentioning.

Like in one of the post match ceremony Robin Jackman called Sachin Tendulkar as SANJAY in front of 50000 screaming Indians. I understand it was a slip of the tongue and he did not intent to mispronounce it but I wonder how can you fumble with God’s name?

There was one funny incident involving Virat Kohli. Harsha Bhogle was talking to Kohli during a course of match in player’s talk session and Kohli misfielded one, the ball went between his legs. Harsha Bhogle said,” that’s something unusual, Virat is a good fielder”. And Kohli replied “yeah, shit happens“. There was a stunned silence from Harsha and his fellow commentator Pommie Mbangwa could not control his laughter.

In another post match ceremony after Vijay’s heroics and win over Rajasthan, Dhoni Said,” Vijay was special. Not much power, no stupid shots, but clean hitting.” In another incident when a kitty-cat walked on field, Danny Morrison commented Pets, film stars they all come to watch IPL.

IPL is well known for throwing up some or the other controversies every now and then. Most of them are blown out of proportion and few are subdued. But one thing is sure that they add spice to this drama.
