Runs Per Over in First 6 and Last 5 Overs

sachin-iplIn T20 many a times power play overs (1-6) and death overs (16-20) decide the outcome of a game. A good start provides a solid platform and good finish swings the momentum and vice-versa. In match between Punjab and Rajasthan, Punjab managed to get only 27 runs in last 5 overs whereas Rajasthan scored 70 runs in first 6 overs and that changed the course of a game.

Generally teams scoring runs at good pace in overs between 1-6 and 16-20 are performing well.  Mumbai is leading points table and this analysis vindicates one of reasons of Mumbai’s winning run. Bangalore are having somewhat slow starts to their innings but they are keeping wickets in hand for death over assault and they too have good RPO in death overs. Even other team’s performance can be related to their performance in these crucial overs. These are very vital stats and team management must be keeping a close eye on these stats.
